Coming Sunday: Palm Beach County high school magnet programs generate sports free agency

By James @littlenomads

In the old days, high school athletes had to literally move into a new house to change schools to play on the best football or basketball or softball team.

No longer.

With magnet programs at every high school and an array of other transfer options, high school sports free agency is rampant in Palm Beach County.

The best athletes can play for the coach of their choice.

And, under existing rules, there’s little anyone can do to halt the surge in powerhouse teams.

As the strong get stronger, the weak get weaker.

On Sunday, The Post launches a three-part series to show how pervasive high school free agency has become, what rules are being broken and the repercussions for teams that lose their best players.
