Storylines:

CLASS 3A

Outstanding relay teams give Boca Raton’s boys a strong chance to take home the Class 3A state title. The Bobcats have 3A’s top qualifying times in the 200 free (All-American consideration) and 400 free relays and the second-place time in the 200 medley relay.

Individually, Boca boasts 3A’s top qualifier in the 50 free, junior Jason McCormick, who is also seeded fourth in the 100 free. Senior Kameron Sipowski leads Jupiter’s boys team, which sends four competitors and two relay teams to states. He is seeded seventh among a tight field in the 100 breast. Classmate Justin Ortiz is eighth in the 100 free

Elsewhere, Dwyer freshman Simon Adiano has a shot at a diving medal (eighth seed). Up on the Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce Central senior Matheus Costa de Assis is third in the 100 back and sixth in the 50 free.

On the girls’ side, Boca Raton senior Harper Bruens swam a 51.57 in the 100 free, which earned her All-American consideration and placed her second among 3A qualifiers. Bruens, last year’s Post girls swimmer of the year, is 3A’s top qualifier in the 50 free. John I. Leonard sophomore Christi Herfurth (sixth, 100 fly) has a good shot at a medal.

CLASS 2A

Martin County’s boys have an excellent shot at a Class 2A team medal. The Tigers feature several top-six qualifiers, led by senior Mack Martinock, who is seeded second in the 100 breast and 200 IM. Martinock’s 1:53.64 qualifying time in the 200 IM just missed All-American consideration. Sophomore Daniel Hartley is fifth in the 100 back and sixth in the 100 fly. The Tigers also have 2A’s second-seeded 200 medley relay and fifth-seeded 400 free relay squads.

Among 2A girls teams, Suncoast and Martin County will battle for position among 2A’s best. Martin County junior Macey Arnold qualified second in the 200 free and fourth in the 500 free, while classmate Aubrey Murray is third in the 100 fly.

Suncoast has a similarly deep roster led by junior Hannah Vandersluis (fourth, 100 breast and 200 IM), her classmate Daniela Vega (fifth, 20 free, 100 fly) and freshman Fabiana Ingram (sixth, 100 back; eighth, 50 free). Suncoast’s 200 medley relay qualified in second place, and the Chargers could get points from sophomore diver Brianna Felegi (eighth-place qualifier).

Martin County and Suncoast will almost certainly tangle in the girls 400 free relay – Martin County is the top seed, while Suncoast is third.

Forest Hill will get a boost from sophomore Julie Suarez, who is the second seed in the 500 free and fourth in the 100 back, and her sister, junior Lauren Suarez, who is seventh in the 100 free.

CLASS 1A

St. Andrew’s boys and girls teams are expected to take home plenty of medals.

The Scots’ girls could bring grab the overall team title. Freshman Megan Moroney is 1A’s top seed in the 100 fly and second in the 200 free, while junior Tasija Karosas is the second seed in both the 200 IM and 100 back. Sophomore Blaire Mulka qualified second in 1-meter diving. The Scots could also get individual points from eighth-grader Jessica Conway (eighth, 100 fly). St. Andrew’s has the top-seeded 200 free relay and the third-seeded 400 free relay.

On the boys side, the Scots feature senior Wali Toulson (fourth, 100 free; fifth, 50 free), junior Quinn Cassidy (seventh, 200 IM) and three strong relay teams – the 400 free (fourth), 200 free (fifth) and 200 medley (seventh).
