King’s Academy football coach Craig Dobson permanently steps down

By Jeff Greer

Craig Dobson will not return as King’s Academy’s football coach, the school announced Monday.

Dobson took a leave of absence at the end of October after doctors ordered him to have heart surgery. At the time, 51-year-old coach said he didn’t have any other choice. He called the surgery to repair valve damage in his heart “very serious.”

Dobson was 47-18 in his six seasons at King’s Academy, coaching the Lions to four playoff berths. This year’s team finished 6-4 but just missed the postseason. Dobson will remain involved in athletics at King’s, which will immediately begin its coaching search.

“Coach Dobson has been a huge asset to King’s athletics and our football program,” King’s Athletic Director Adam Winters said. “We are praying for Craig and his pending surgery. We look forward to his return to King’s after his recovery period.”
