Travis Johnson out as Olympic Heights football coach

By Matt Porter

After one season on the job, Olympic Heights and head coach Travis Johnson have parted ways.

The Lions went 3-7 under Johnson this season. Their wins came against Palm Beach Lakes, Forest Hill and Okeechobee, three teams with a combined 4-26 record.

Olympic Heights Athletic Director Carla Blefary said Johnson’s staff was also dismissed. She said a coaching search would begin immediately and hoped to name a replacement by holiday break.

“The Administration would like to thank Coach Johnson and his staff for their efforts, but at this time we have decided to go in a different direction in regard to the football program,” Blefary said in an email to the Post.

Johnson, 39, was previously a defensive coordinator at Pope John Paul II and assistant at Hialeah High and Jacksonville University. He did not immediately return a phone call requesting comment.
