Glades Central suspends LB Jatavis Brown, DB Crevon LeBlanc, two others

By Jeff Greer

Glades Central will be without two of its star defensive players to start the 2011 playoffs, Principal Anthony Anderson confirmed Thursday.

Middle linebacker Jatavis Brown, defensive back Crevon LeBlanc and two other unidentified players were suspended 10 school days and two football games for violating the student conduct code. They are not allowed on school grounds or at football practice during the suspensions. They’ll miss Glades Central’s playoff opener at home against Titusville-Astronaut at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“We have taken the appropriate internal measures for now,” Anderson said.

After practice Wednesday, first-year coach Roosevelt Blackmon said he’d “been better” but was told not to comment on the suspensions.

Brown, a vital part of Glades Central’s run defense, reached the 100-tackle milestone last week during the Muck Bowl, when Glades Central routed Pahokee 70-0. Brown, a senior, was the Post Defensive Player of the Year last season.

LeBlanc plays safety for the Raiders and is known for his ball-hawking abilities and hard hits. He was an All-Area first teamer in 2010 and has had a solid senior season.
