Last meeting: Glades Day beat Jupiter Christian 34-28 (OT) on Sept. 24 at Dwyer High.
Series history: The teams have met six times since 2008 and have played in the same classification since 2009. Each team has won three games. Glades Day has won both playoff games (2009, ’10 regional finals). For the full story on the Jupiter Christian-Glades Day rivalry, click here.

Since Jupiter Christian coach Bill Powers called up Glades Day coach Pete Walker in 2008 and asked him if he’d like to schedule a game, this has become one of the best rivalries in the state.

The Eagles, established in 2002, won Class 1A state championships in 2007 and 2008. Since they’ve shifted into the same classification with Glades Day, their season has ended in a flash of green and gold.

Kelvin Taylor has ruined Jupiter Christian’s championship hopes the last two years running. For the full story on Taylor and the Jupiter Christian-Glades Day rivalry, click here.

The Gators, winners of seven state championships (second-best in Florida), are a favorite to win their eighth. They’ll need to stop talented QB Kedric Bostic, who is close to matching Taylor’s astronomical production level (Bostic: 2,500 yards of total offense, 34 touchdowns; Taylor: 2,539 rushing yards, 36 TD). If Taylor has his best game – he went for a state-record 437 yards and five touchdowns in last year’s regional final, it may not matter what Bostic does.

While Taylor has shown he can be unstoppable, Bostic and the Eagles have shown a little late-game magic. In the first round, they scored twice in the final 4:42 to take down Dade Christian. Bostic sneaked for a touchdown on fourth down at the 1-yard line, then threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Nate Cannon with 41.5 seconds left.

They pushed it to overtime Sept. 24 against Glades Day, but a missed field goal with no time left (senior Jon Dinzik, one of the area’s best kickers, doesn’t miss many, so don’t expect that to happen again) and a fumble in overtime did them in.

As always, the Eagles must be nearly perfect to slow down Taylor. They’ll try to get him at the line of scrimmage and stop him from jump-cutting and slicing his way to big gains. They should be able to score plenty on Glades Day. If they can stop him a few times, they might finally beat Taylor when it counts.
