Jessamen Dunker says Charlie Weis’ departure from Florida Gators won’t change commitment

By Matt Porter

Like most Gator fans, Boynton Beach offensive lineman Jessamen Dunker, who has represented UF loud and proud since his commitment in March, was surprised to hear Charlie Weis had decided to leave the program.

He doesn’t intend to do the same.

Dunker (6-6, 315, No. 2 on the Big Board) said Thursday he’s “100 percent” committed to the Gators despite Weis’ decision to become head coach at Kansas.

“To be honest, I really don’t have anything to say about this right now,” Dunker said. “This isn’t changing nothing. I’m 100 percent.”

As UF’s offensive coordinator, Weis had a hand in recruiting Dunker, who at the time of his commitment held scholarship offers from more than 20 schools, including Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and LSU.

He said he and Weis “weren’t real tight,” but had begun to develop a relationship through calls, texts and Facebook.

“I guess I’ll have to get to know a new OC,” said Dunker, who plans to graduate from Boynton Beach in December and enroll early at UF.

Rivals.com ranks Dunker as a four-star recruit, the 16th-best offensive lineman and No. 103 prospect in the nation.
