Glades Day RB Kelvin Taylor named a finalist for Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football award

By Jeff Greer

A record-breaking year for Glades Day running back Kelvin Taylor got even better Thursday with his nomination for the Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football award.

Taylor, who was named the Class 2A Player of the Year, will compete with seven other nominees for the coveted Mr. Football title, each of whom won their respective class’s player of the year award. No other area players are in the running for the award. No Palm Beach County or Treasure Coast coaches were nominated for Coach of the Year.

Taylor ran for 2,884 yards and 40 touchdowns as a junior, smashing Emmitt Smith’s career rushing record in Florida high school football. He’s run for 8,975 yards and 141 touchdowns in his career, both state records.

Glades Central athlete Will Likely finished third in 5A player of the year voting and American Heritage running back Greg Bryant was second in 3A player of the year voting.

Kelvin Taylor, RB, Glades Day
Nick Patti, QB, Dr. Phillips
Cord Sandberg, QB, Manatee
Nathan Peterman, QB, Bartram Trail
