Notebook: Atlantic junior DT Keith Bryant commits to Miami, PB Central gains lineman

By Matt Porter

Miami’s junior day last Saturday attracted many of the state’s top Class of 2013’ers. One of them, Atlantic defensive tackle Keith Bryant, decided to pledge right then and there.

Bryant (6-2, 295) committed to Miami after picking up a verbal offer. He has offers from Alabama and Marshall. West Virginia and UCF are also recruiting him.

Bryant admitted it’s still a long way from signing day, but he wanted to return the love UM showed him.

“It’s young in my recruitment but Miami put it all out on the table for me and let me know that I was wanted,” Bryant told ESPN.com. “Both Florida and Florida State saw me at their camps and they know who I am, but Miami was the school that reached out to me.”

Bryant was a second-team All-Area selection for Atlantic, which went 6-4 and missed the playoffs.

Bryant told ESPN his commitment is firm but he expects to visit other campuses.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding. National signing day for Bryant’s class is Feb. 6, 2013, a mere 384 days away.

Lineman on the move: Junior Nickedel Pierre, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound lineman, transferred from Santaluces to Palm Beach Central.

Pierre, who played guard and defensive tackle for Santaluces, told the Post he moved into Palm Beach Central’s zone.

Baseball: Dwyer senior Tim Lynch committed to Southern Mississippi. Lynch, a 6-2, 195-pound corner infielder, hit .365 and tied for the large-school lead in homers (7). He was an All-Area honorable mention.
