Boca Raton removes interim tag from football coach Lewis Burnham

By Jeff Greer

Boca Raton Principal Geoff McKee confirmed Thursday that he’s taken the interim tag off of football head coach Lewis Burnham and made him the permanent leader Boca’s program.

Burnham, 27, took over as interim head coach when Boca dismissed Keith Byars after he allegedly shoved a player on the sidelines of a Sept. 16 game. He guided the Bobcats to a 2-5 record over the final eight weeks of the season, but will get the chance to prove himself without the temporary title. McKee’s choice wasn’t a surprise, given Burnham’s familiarity with the players and program.

Burnham is also the school’s athletic director and teaches full-time. He was an assistant coach for Byars and Eddie Giersbrook over the past five seasons, mostly coaching offensive linemen. He played tight end at North Carolina.
