Bill on Florida private high school sports to be heard by Senate committee

Florida Senate Bill 1704, which aims to make the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association as the governing body for private high school sports in this state, will be discussed by the Senate Education Committee on Monday.

The committee’s hearing will be broadcast online from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the TheFloridaChannel.org.

The FHSAA, the official governing body of high school sports in Florida, has been around since 1920. The SIAA was created in 2009 and includes several private schools that clashed with the FHSAA before departing.
