Palm Beach Gardens RB Roshard Burney inks with West Virginia

By Jeff Greer

On a day when all eyes turned to Palm Beach Gardens offensive tackle Avery Young’s college decision, his teammate provided far less drama.

Gardens running back Roshard Burney signed with West Virginia, sending his letter of intent to the Mountaineers around noon Wednesday. He verbally committed to WVU just after Thanksgiving and never wavered.

Burney (6-0, 205, No. 6 on the Big Board) broke out as a senior at Gardens after transferring from Glades Day before his junior season. The bruising-but-shifty back ran for 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns, earning the Post Large Schools Offensive Player of the Year award.

Burney’s signing to WVU gave the Mountaineers one of the top classes in the area, with Treasure Coast quarterback Travares Copeland and Village Academy receiver Devonte Robinson signing, too.
