Suncoast entered the 2011 football season with two dynamic defensive backs. They signed Division I football scholarships on Wednesday.
Hard-hitting safety Davison Colimon inked with Florida International, while cornerback Abiade Granger signed with Stony Brook, an FCS school on Long Island. Track star Antwan Wright signed with Florida, and girls’ soccer standout Makeshia Lucien signed with Stetson.
The quartet signed their national letters of intent at a ceremony in Suncoast’s media center.
Colimon (6-1, 190, No. 23 on the Big Board) was a Post Small Schools All-Area first team selection this fall. He’s also a basketball player and runs track. He stuck with FIU throughout the various rumors circling coach Mario Cristobal, who flirted with several other job openings.
“He sat down with me and my mom and told us how much I meant to the class,” Colimon said of Cristobal. “He told me that there would be nothing to take him away from his 2012 FIU recruiting class. This is his best class.”
Granger (6-0, 180, No. 55 on the Big Board) had also received interest from Florida International, but ultimately picked Stony Brook over Bryant (R.I.).
Wright runs the 100- and 200-yard dash for Suncoast, and is one of the top sprinters in the state, while Lucien was a Post All-Area honorable mention choice last winter.
Wright joins former Suncoast track star Tony McQuay in Gainesville.
“I could barely sleep last night I was so excited,” Wright said. “Track-wise, UF is one of the best schools. Every day is a competition.”
