Recruiting notebook: Former Dwyer TE Ben Hall to play for FAU

By Matt Porter

Ben Hall, who was overshadowed by FSU-bound star Nick O’Leary at Dwyer High, said he has made Florida Atlantic’s football team as a walk-on.

“I’m just trying to get a grasp of the new [spread] offense they’ve got and try to make a name for myself,” said Hall, who transferred to FAU after the fall semester.

Hall, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end, played last fall as a true freshman at Wisconsin-Stout. He caught one pass for 23 yards.

He was recruited by Ohio Northern, Mt. Union and had a preferred walk-on spot at Miami after his senior season at Dwyer, in which he caught eight passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Noteworthy: Former Lake Worth quarterback Evan Moore, Lake Worth linebacker Cory Moore and Palm Beach Central wide receiver E.J. Sardinha, all seniors, visited Mount Union last week. Mount Union, a Div. III school in Alliance, Ohio, is best known as the alma mater of John I. Leonard alum and Washington Redskins receiver Pierre Garçon … Palm Beach Central senior Erik Rose, an offensive lineman, committed to West Liberty, a Div. II school in West Virginia. Rose (6-3, 250) graded out at 80 percent last season for the Broncos … Dwyer senior Heath Walker, a center/guard, will play at LaGrange College, a Div. III program in the western part of Georgia.
