Girls basketball: 16 local players on FABC’s all-state teams

Sixteen area players were honored as all-state selections by the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches.

Four area players made the Class 8A team: Dwyer’s 6-foot-5 junior Kai James, Palm Beach Central seniors Lexus Love and Mariah-Cauhryn Smelser, and John I. Leonard senior Tamoya Merritt.

Shanovia Dove, who led Palm Beach Lakes to the regional semifinals as a junior, was a Class 7A selection.

Taylor Shade, who leaves Boynton Beach as the school’s all-time leader in points, three-pointers and assists, made all-state in Class 5A.

Lincoln Park junior Brandy Montgomery, who has more than 2,000 career points heading into her senior year, was named Class 4A Player of the Year. Her teammate, Stephanie Ball, was an all-state selection. St. Andrew’s double-double machine, Angela Alvarez, was a 4A all-state selection as well.

Benjamin sophomore Riley Burke, who led the county in scoring, was a Class 3A selection along with Trinity Christian junior Alicia McCray.

Three Grandview Prep players made the Class 2A all-state team: Sophomores Neydja Petithomme and Vionise Pierre-Louis and freshman Jonika Garvin, who helped the Pride reach the state semifinals.

Class 5A: Taylor Shade, Boynton Beach; Ashley Robinson, Jensen Beach.
Class 4A: Brandy Montgomery (Player of the Year), Stephanie Ball, Lincoln Park Academy; Angela Alvarez, St. Andrews.
Class 3A: Riley Burke, Benjamin; Alicia McCray, Trinity Christian.
Class 2A: Neydja Petithomme, Voinise Pierre-Louis, Jonika Garvin, Grandview Prep.
