Softball: Palm Beach Gardens stays in top five in national polls

By Jeff Greer

Back-to-back wins last week against state-ranked opponents pushed Palm Beach Gardens softball back to the brink of another No. 1 national ranking.

Gardens (18-1) beat American Heritage 6-0 on Friday and then stormed back to edge Miami-Gulliver Prep 5-4 on Saturday afternoon, effectively righting the ship after losing its first game of the season two Fridays ago. Gardens fell from the top spot in the ESPN and MaxPreps national rankings.

This week, Gardens is back up to second in the ESPN poll. The Gators are fourth in the MaxPreps rankings.

Class 6A power Niceville is actually No. 1 in the MaxPreps poll. The Eagles are two spots below Gardens in ESPN’s top 50.
