Softball: Ohio pitcher strikes out 34 in win over American Heritage

By Jeff Greer

Sometimes a weeknight roundup doesn’t quite cover an event with enough pizzazz.

On Monday night, we got a short blurb in our softball roundup explaining that Poland Seminary, a school from Poland, Ohio, defeated American Heritage 2-1 in 16 innings. But the first comment after the score is hard to miss: Poland Seminary ace Erin Gabriel struck out 34 (34!) over the 16-inning affair.

Poland Seminary (4-0), which is ranked 12th in the nation in ESPN’s national high school softball poll, plays the Post‘s top-ranked team and the second-ranked team in the nation, Palm Beach Gardens, on Tuesday night.
