Softball: Palm Beach Gardens back on top in national rankings

By Jeff Greer

It didn’t take long for Palm Beach Gardens to return to the top of the national softball rankings.

The first Gators loss of the season jarred them down the totem pole, but nine consecutive wins — including four against nationally ranked opponents — have Gardens back in the No. 1 spot. In those nine wins, Gardens (23-1) has outscored its opponents 81-6.

Humorously enough, Gardens was ranked first in the MaxPreps poll before it beat 12th-ranked Poland (Ohio) Seminary on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see them take on social-media legend Erin Gabriel, who struck out 34 American Heritage batters in a 16-inning win in Delray Beach on Monday night.

The Gators are one of six Florida teams rated in ESPN’s Fab 50.
