Seminole Ridge, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach Gardens among state flag football powers

By Matt Porter

The flag football playoffs began Monday with district tournaments all across the state. According to Joe Pinkos’ power ratings, three Palm Beach County teams are among the state’s elite.

Pinkos, known for his football ratings in the fall, has Seminole Ridge (2), Boynton Beach (6) and Palm Beach Gardens (7) in his current top 25, meaning three of the top seven teams in the state are from Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County is arguably the birthplace of Florida high school flag football, a sentiment we wrote about here.

Here are Pinkos’ power ratings for this week. The ratings are calculated using a formula based on strength of opposition and margin of victory.

Of note: Pinkos projects Orlando-Dr. Phillips to beat Seminole Ridge in the state final. Dr. Phillips won the teams’ regular-season meeting 14-13.
