Jupiter bumps Palm Beach Gardens softball out of ESPN, MaxPreps top spots

By Jeff Greer

Jupiter made a big statement last Thursday when it thumped Palm Beach Gardens in the District 9-8A softball championship. The full impact of the Warriors’ 10-4 win wasn’t felt until this week.

Gardens (26-2) dropped out of the No. 1 spot in the national ESPN and MaxPreps high school softball polls. The Gators are ranked fifth in both rankings, which are updated every Wednesday. No other area teams made the polls, which seemed surprising given Jupiter’s recent string of success and the quality of the Warriors’ schedule.

Jupiter (21-6) has beaten Gardens, Park Vista and Plantation-American Heritage this season, and ace Kylee Hanson is 1-1 with 26 strikeouts and one earned run allowed in two starts against Gardens. None of Hanson’s four runs allowed in last week’s win were earned.

The Warriors have won seven games in a row, outscoring their opponents 45-6 in those games. They’ll host the Class 8A regional semifinal matchup against Gardens at 7 p.m. Friday.
