Girls’ lacrosse: Benjamin wins sportsmanship award

By Jeff Greer

The Benjamin girls’ lacrosse team had a successful 2012 season, reaching the second-round play-in game of the state tournament. But the Bucs got an award along the way that has the school excited.

The South Florida Women’s Lacrosse Umpires Association awarded Benjamin with the Frank Rathke Sportsmanship Award, given to the team that displays the best sportsmanship in South Florida. Officials in the SFWLUA vote for the winner of the award, taking into consideration all levels of the program, including junior varsity and the coaching staff along with varsity players.
