Football notes: Ex-American Heritage TE signs with Detroit Lions

Former American Heritage tight end Alex Gottlieb, who played his college ball at William & Mary, has signed a free agent rookie deal with the Detroit Lions, according to multiple reports.

In college, Gottlieb was a two-time All-American and was twice named first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association. He finished his career with 905 yards and five touchdowns on 75 catches.

McGregor earns Jags tryout: Former Glades Day quarterback Josh McGregor, who set all kinds of records at Jacksonville University, said he earned a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars. McGregor finished his career 23rd on the all-time Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Div. 1-AA) list with 11,230 passing yards and was sixth in touchdown passes (111).

Passeggiata commits: Former Palm Beach Central tight end Matt Passeggiata committed to Jacksonville, according to coach Rod Harris. over the last two seasons, Passeggiata had 141 yards receiving, 125 yards rushing and three touchdowns. His brother, Gianpaolo, plays for JU. He is the eighth player in Palm Beach Central’s senior class to commit to a school, Harris said.
