Class 3A state track preview: Lakes’ Shamaz Quince wants double gold in last state meet

By Matt Porter

This weekend is the second round of state track meets at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Here’s what to expect from the Class 3A meet, which starts at 1 p.m. Friday:

CLASS 3A BOYS

It wouldn’t be a state meet without Palm Beach Lakes hurdlers. Sophomore Jonathan Hayden (110) and junior Darius Hodges (300) are seeded sixth and eighth in their events, respectively.

Martin County senior Justin Simmons could medal in the high jump and triple jump. Senior Jake Burton, who has battled John I. Leonard senior Anderson Charles for the title of the area’s best in the 800, is seeded fifth in that event. Charles competes at Saturday’s Class 4A meet.

Lake Worth will be represented well. Two juniors – high jumper Tiah Sanborn and 300-meter-hurdler Shakira Bartley – are expected to medal, and junior Tatianna Etienne is seeded 10th in the 400.
