Flag football: Seminole Ridge’s Lagos, Bowe win state awards

By Matt Porter

Seminole Ridge senior Bianca Lagos and coach Austin Bowe were named Florida Dairy Farmers flag football player of the year and coach of the year.

Lagos, a Hawks starter at wide receiver and linebacker for three years, had 87 catches for 1,048 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Defensively, she pulled 75 flags and had 13 interceptions, returning six for touchdowns.

In Seminole Ridge’s 20-13 state final win over Orlando-Dr. Phillips, Lagos caught a short pass and took it 65 yards to the end zone for the winning score with 6.7 seconds left.

Bowe, who was also coach of the year in 2010, led the Hawks to their second state title in three years. He is 99-12 at Seminole Ridge since the school added flag football seven years ago.
