Lacrosse: St. Andrew’s Whipple, Dawson win state awards

By Matt Porter

St. Andrew’s junior Conor Whipple and coach R.J. Dawson were named the Florida Dairy Farmers boys lacrosse player of the year and coach of the year.

Whipple, an attacker, scored 100 goals and 56 assists for the Scots, who won the state championship. He scored 11 goals in a single match, one shy of the national high school record. He was selected as April’s national player of the month by the National High School Coaches Association.

In his second season as St. Andrew’s coach, Dawson led the Scots to a 22-2 record and the state title. St. Andrew’s has won four state titles in the five years the FHSAA has recognized boys lacrosse.
