Palm Beach Gardens’ Shelby Turnier named Florida Miss Softball

Her team didn’t make it to Clermont, but Palm Beach Gardens ace Shelby Turnier didn’t need any hardware to be named Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball.

Turnier, a UCF signee and graduating senior, edged out Niceville’s Stephanie Hartness and Miami-Gulliver Prep’s Christiana Gabriele to win the award. The Gardens righty was 24-2 this spring, with a 0.71 earned-run average and 190 strikeouts in 166 2/3 innings. She’s the first Palm Beach County player to win the statewide award, which is voted on by coaches around Florida and members of the media.

As a sophomore and junior, Turnier won state titles with Palm Beach Gardens. In her senior season, she pitched the Gators to a No. 1 national ranking in both ESPN and MaxPreps’ high school softball polls, pitching 15 shutouts along the way.
