Florida International continued its strong recruiting run in Palm Beach County, signing track standout Miriam Pierre of Santaluces.
Pierre, a two-time Class 4A state champion in the shot put, will attend FIU on a track scholarship. She was also a first-team Post All-Area selection in basketball.
Pierre, a two-time first-team All-Area selection in track, has personal bests of 43 feet, 6 1/2 inches in the shot put and 139-6 in the discus.

“She has a basketball background and is not just a good thrower but a good athlete,” FIU assistant track and field coach Ryan Heberling said in a press release. “Miriam has great strength, speed and body awareness, which will give her good range in the throws. She should have some success in the hammer/weight and brings some good marks in the shot and discus.”
This year, FIU’s women’s basketball team signed first-team All-Area selection Taylor Shade (Boynton Beach). The football team scooped up first-team All-Area players Edens Sineace (Palm Beach Central), Trenton Saunders (Benjamin) and Davison Colimon (Suncoast). Standout baseball players Phildrick Llewellyn (Trinity Christian) also signed with the Panthers.
