2012 MLB Draft: Dwyer OF Jamal Martin drafted by Boston Red Sox in 11th round

By Matt Porter

The first Palm Beach County high school player drafted in this year’s MLB Draft is Dwyer outfielder Jamal Martin.

Martin, one of the fastest players in the state, was chosen in the 11th round (361st overall) by the Boston Red Sox.

Martin has signed a scholarship with Florida State. He is a 5-foot-8, 185 pounds and bats and throws right-handed.

As a senior, he played center field and batted third for Dwyer, finishing with a .386 batting average and 11 steals. He transferred from Forest Hill after his junior season. As a sophomore, he played for Park Vista.

He was selected to play in last Saturday’s Dick Howser All-Star Game, but elected not to play.
