FHSAA baseball state tournament leaving Port St. Lucie

By Matt Porter

Baseball fans in Palm Beach County should expect to drive a lot longer to see the state tournament next spring.

The FHSAA announced the possible new locations of state finals in three sports, including baseball. Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie, home of the baseball state tournament for the past four years, is not among the candidates.

If the FHSAA and the Lee County Sports Authority can reach a contract, the new home of the baseball state finals will be JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox.

Pending a deal, the cross country state finals could move from Little Everglades Steeplechase Ranch in Dade City to Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. The boys and girls soccer state finals could move from the University of South Florida in Tampa to the Melbourne Central Catholic Sports Complex.

The FHSAA expects contracts with the sites to be signed by August 1.
