Gardens alum Sam Kimmel, a junior catcher and an 18th-round choice of the Baltimore Orioles, said he expects to sign Friday or Saturday.

His signing bonus is $50,000, plus $35-40,000 for education.

“They pay for my last year at Stetson, whenever I decide to finish school,” Kimmel said. “That was a big part of me agreeing to sign.”

Another Gardens grad, senior catcher Ben Carhart, will sign a deal with the Chicago Cubs, who selected him in the 35th round (1064th overall). Carhart previously played at Palm Beach State. He said he would finalize terms of his deal Friday.

Right-hander Jake Boyd, who played for John I. Leonard, also expected to agree to terms this week. Boyd was a 38th-round choice (1167th overall) of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Their former teammate, junior right-hander Kurt Schluter, is still undecided on his future.

Schluter, a Jupiter alum, was drafted in the 39th round (1201 overall) by the Boston Red Sox. Schluter, who is currently pitching in the Cape Cod League, said he would try to impress up there before coming to terms.

The deadline for drafted players to sign contracts is July 13.
