Hoops: Dwyer alum Joel James misses out on USA U-18 national team

By Jeff Greer

For the biggest hoops name in the area over the past few years, it’s time to move on to college.

Graduated Dwyer big man Joel James, who will attend North Carolina starting this summer, missed the final cut for the USA basketball U-18 national team, which will compete this week at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Brazil. James made the second round of the tryouts, which were held in Colorado Springs over the past few days, but he and uncommitted 2013 prospect Austin Nichols missed out on the final 12 spots.

James will now turn his attention to UNC, where he’ll join a reloading Tar Heels team that sent four projected first-round draft picks to the NBA.
