Jack Kokinda’s successor at Cardinal Newman is someone well-versed in his methods.

The West Palm Beach school hired Sean Comfort, who played under Kokinda and graduated from Newman in 1990, as its head baseball coach.

Comfort was an assistant under Kokinda from 2006-10, when the Crusaders were in the midst of a six-year run as district champions.

Comfort, who will also teach physical education at Newman, spent the past six years as athletic director and a P.E. teacher at All Saints Catholic School in Jupiter. He played baseball at Trenton State (N.J.), now The College of New Jersey.

Kokinda, who took the 2012 season off, officially retired last month after 43 years and a county-record 703 wins. Assistant coach Daniel Prieto was the Crusaders’ interim coach in his absence.
