Former Palm Beach Gardens baseball player identified as victim killed in crash

By Post Staff

A former Palm Beach Gardens High School baseball player died overnight after crashing his car on PGA Boulevard near railroad tracks in suburban Palm Beach Gardens, authorities said.

Tyler Dittmer, 20, of Palm Beach Gardens, died after losing control of his car and striking a tree at sometime overnight Tuesday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Palm Beach Gardens baseball coach Joe Russo confirmed that Dittmer played for the squad and said that Dittmer graduated from the school in 2010. But Russo said this evening that he was still processing the news and that he did not wish to comment further.

According to a sheriff’s crash report, Dittmer’s 1996 Ford Cobra was struck shortly before 10:30 a.m. today by a northbound train. But sheriff’s investigators reported that he died in an earlier single vehicle crash.
