Notebook: Glades Central’s Will Likely to play on ESPNU

A week before high school football practices begin, Glades Central senior Will Likely will be in Orlando as part of a televised event.

Likely will compete in ESPN’s Gridiron Kings games from July 27-29 at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex. It will be shown on ESPNU from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 29.

Gridiron Kings is part of the ESPN HS Games, a three-week long event that includes top-level competitions in several high school sports.

Six other players from Florida have confirmed their attendance: Vernon Hargreaves (Tampa-Wharton), Sojourn Shelton (Plantation), Quinton Powell (Daytona Beach-Mainland), Matthew Thomas (Miami-Booker T. Washington), Ryan Green (St. Petersburg Catholic) and Leon McQuay (Seffner-Armwod).

Football: Former Dwyer running back Matt McMahon said he has transferred to Jupiter. McMahon, a senior, left Dwyer last month. He had 51 carries for 156 yards and 3 touchdowns as a junior.

Baseball: Former Palm Beach Central catcher Hunter Morey will play at Northern Kentucky University. NKU this year will move to the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference. Morey’s brother Gage, a senior outfielder at Palm Beach Central, last year committed to play at A-Sun school Florida Gulf Coast University.
