St. Andrew’s new football coach is Corey Riley, who played at American Heritage and Eastern Michigan.

The long-rumored move was announced by the Boca Raton private school on Wednesday.

Riley, 28, was most recently an assistant coach at American Heritage, from which he graduated in 2003. Riley, who played defensive end, was a Class A first-team all-state selection his senior year, helping Heritage reach the state finals for the first time in school history.

Riley was a three-year starter at defensive end for Eastern Michigan. He spent two years as an EMU graduate assistant after college. He was a defensive line and running backs coach at St. Andrew’s from 2008-10.

He takes over for George McCartin, who resigned in June. McCartin was 45-42 in eight seasons.

The Scots, who finished 5-5 last year and lost their spring game 17-0 to Forest Hill, join the Southeastern Football Conference, a fledgling league of independent, mostly-private schools that includes Benjamin and Pope John Paul II.
