Soccer: Boca GK Brian Kilgallon, midfielder Nico Midttun commit to colleges

By Jeff Greer

One of the area’s two nationally prominent soccer programs has two players who have pledged their futures to colleges — for now.

Standout goalkeeper Brian Kilgallon has verbally committed to play for College of Charleston in South Carolina, while midfielder Nico Midttun gave his commitment, with a caveat, to Florida International, Boca Raton coach Marcelo Castillo said. The juniors join midfielder Hunter Bandy, who pledged to Wake Forest in the spring, to give Boca Raton three Class of 2013 Division I commitments.

Midttun’s commitment comes with a caveat because the rising senior is considering his professional options. He’s currently playing on a trial, a soccer term for what is essentially a temporary tryout, for a club in Ecuador. He teamed up with Bandy to form one of the nation’s top midfields, as Boca reached the regional finals this past winter.

Kilgallon, a three-time Post All-Area selection, collected 14 clean sheets last season.
