Lavon Brown named Pahokee’s athletics director

By Matt Porter

Pahokee football coach Blaze Thompson has a new boss and a few new duties for the upcoming football season.

Thompson said former athletics director Tricia Maxwell was replaced by Lavon Brown. Thompson is now assistant athletics director.

Maxwell, who represented Pahokee last week’s county coaches’ meeting, left the school for a teaching promotion at Atlantic.

Thompson said Maxwell, who was named Pahokee’s AD in March 2010, left on her own terms. She will become Atlantic’s ESOL coordinator.

“This wasn’t a firing or anything,” Thompson said. “She got a new job. The principal wants the AD to be on-campus, obviously. We wish her well.”

Brown, 42, whose first name is Ellrowlyn, is in his second year as an ESE teacher at Pahokee. He will continue in that role.

Outside of his regular football coaching, Thompson said he would do “whatever [Brown] wants me to do” to help Pahokee’s athletics department.

“It can’t be any less stressful than coaching football,” he joked.

ESPN760 first reported the move.
