Doug Socha to call games on ESPN 760

By Matt Porter

Trumpeting a “major announcement,” ESPN760 announced former American Heritage coach and new Oxbridge Academy football coach Doug Socha will be a color commentator on its Thursday night football radio broadcasts.

ESPN 760′s Jeremy Marks-Peltz, who will perform play-by-play duties next to Socha, revealed the move in a Wednesday evening radio interview with Socha.

“There is nobody bigger in this community than Doug Socha,” Marks-Peltz said, likening him to “the John Madden of high school sports.”

On ESPN 760, Socha offered no details about his departure from Heritage, which he led to a 2011 Class 3A state title. He said he was inspired by Oxbridge’s potential.

“I really thought I was going to be in an off-the-field position with a college,” Socha said. “I had a chance to see what their vision is. They had me sold.”

Socha said 25 players have turned out for four initial days of practice at Oxbridge Academy, located on Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach. The program expects to debut in 2013.
