American Heritage has had its fair share of big-name players of the years, and the honors and accolades have come, too. Chalk this one up as another cool achievement to add to the list.

Sebastian Elney, Heritage’s lightning-fast sophomore forward from Lake Worth, was named to the United States Under-17 men’s national soccer team roster, joining 30 other youngsters from around the country.

He’ll participate in the national team residency program in Bradenton, preparing for the CONCACAF U-17 championship in Panama in April. That tournament serves as the qualifying competition for the 2013 U-17 World Cup.

Elney, 15, is one of the four youngest players on the roster and one of two from Florida. Tommy Redding, a 15-year-old defender, is from Oviedo.

Elney, who plays his club soccer for Boca United, was a Post All-Area honorable mention selection this past season, playing among one of the most talented attacking corps in the state.
