Rain, lightning and all that other unwelcome weather put a damper on the opening weekend of high school football, but not entirely.
Dwyer put a good scare in Miami Central, the No. 1 team in the nation, and Royal Palm Beach drove out to Belle Glade and stifled Glades Central. American Heritage stumbled on national television, but the Stallions still carried the new tradition of Palm Beach County teams on ESPN.
We have all the scores we could collect from the area kickoff classics that took place Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Here they are:
Palm Beach Central 68, Village Academy 44 (game report here)
Lloyd Howard ran for 200-plus yards and scored five touchdowns in a shootout.

Summit Christian at Fort Lauderdale-Westminster Academy

Dwyer’s defense thrived but a quick Miami Central secondary gave the Panthers fits all night.
Royal Palm Beach 13, Glades Central 9 (game report here)
Royal Palm Beach’s lightning-quick pass rush overwhelmed Glades Central, handing the Raiders their third consecutive home loss.
Park Vista 7, Lake Worth 0 (game called in first half)
Nelyja Floyd caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Qwad Martin before the game was called.
North Miami Beach 35, Boca Raton 0
Cardinal Newman 14, Glades Day 7
Newman RB Devonte Brown scored two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with less than a minute to play.
Forest Hill 14, Spanish River 0
Josh Garrett caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Shannon Patrick, and Bobby Dexter’s 40-yard interception return for a score sealed the game.
Pope John Paul II 61, Marathon 14
Jarious Smith rushed for three touchdowns and Angelo Ligouri ran for two for Pope.
Seminole Ridge 35, South Plantation 20 (game called in fourth quarter)
Ridge’s offense showed up in a major way but the big story was Erin DiMeglio, who played quarterback for South Plantation in the fourth quarter.
Deerfield Beach at Atlantic, canceled
Jupiter Christian 40, Vero Beach-Master’s Academy 7
JCS racked up 469 total yards of offense and freshman QB Justin Karlsen was 9-of-13 for 99 yards.
Vero Beach 41, Jensen Beach 6
Jensen Beach gained 142 total yards and turned the ball over twice.
Vero Beach-St. Edward’s 13, Boca Christian 6 (game called in fourth quarter)
King’s Academy 27, Benjamin 14
James Holland (2 TDs) and Garrett Larson (1 TD) led the way for King’s.
Berean Christian at Deerfield Beach-Zion Lutheran
Boynton Beach at Santaluces
Centennial 31, Fort Pierce Westwood 0
Centennial ran for 131 yards as a team and blocked a punt in a dominant victory.
Fort Pierce Central 35, Treasure Coast 0
T-Coast mustered just 13 yards of offense as FPC rolled. Running back Marcus Levy suffered a minor ankle sprain in the win.
Okeechobee 14, John Carroll 0
Okeechobee 21, Moore Haven 0
Moore Haven 32, John Carroll 7
Okeechobee dominated the jamboree at Moore Haven, with QB Jack Radebaugh throwing for a touchdown and running for another.
John I. Leonard 35, Martin County 0
Lancers QB Adam Johnson passed for 188 yards and ran for three touchdowns.
Olympic Heights at West Boca Raton
Palm Beach Gardens 28, Port St. Lucie 7
Junior QB JP Caruso was 6-of-13 for 154 yards and two touchdowns for the Gators.

Palm Beach Lakes 9, Pahokee 6
South Fork 36, Clewiston 29
Clewiston scored 23 straight points to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but South Fork’s Lorenz Velasco scored the eventual game-winning touchdown.
Cocoa 25, American Heritage 7 (game report here)
Greg Bryant ran for 100-plus yards but the Stallions were stifled against state power Cocoa.
