Seminole Ridge closed Thursday, hopes to make up Palm Beach Central game

By Matt Porter

Thanks to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaac, Seminole Ridge will miss at least four days of football practice this week.

Athletics Director Scott Parks said the Loxahatchee school is closed Thursday due to ongoing flooding in the surrounding communities. That means sports practices will continue to be postponed.

All other Palm Beach County public schools returned Wednesday after missing two days of classes and practices.

On Tuesday, Seminole Ridge’s Friday night season-opener at Palm Beach Central was postponed by the school district. That game won’t be played this week, but Parks said his school would try to find a solution.

Palm Beach Central offered to host the game Saturday, Monday or Tuesday, but since large areas of its community are still under water, Seminole Ridge doesn’t know when it will be able to practice. Also, the teams have different bye weeks.

“We are going to look at the schedule and propose another Monday down the road,” Parks said. “Next week is going to be impossible for us.”

Seminole Ridge beat Palm Beach Central 17-7 in last season’s Class 8A regional quarterfinals. Seminole Ridge is No. 4 in The Post’s preseason team rankings. Palm Beach Central is No. 7.
