Seminole Ridge closed Friday; Palm Beach Central makeup date proposed

By Matt Porter

While their peers play first week of high school football games, Seminole Ridge will be silent.

The Loxahatchee high school will be closed Friday, the fifth consecutive day it has missed. That’s due to severe flooding from last weekend’s Tropical Storm Isaac which continues to keep large swaths of the surrounding communities underwater.

Seminole Ridge coach Matt Dickmann said the school district has banned his team from practicing until Monday at the earliest due to unsafe conditions.

Dickmann, whose Friday game at Palm Beach Central was postponed by the school district, said he offered to play Palm Beach Central on Monday, Sept. 24.

Seminole Ridge’s bye week begins that day. Palm Beach Central’s is Oct. 19.

Palm Beach Central, which offered to play Seminole Ridge this coming Saturday, Monday or Tuesday, isn’t amenable to playing on Ridge’s bye week.

“I’d love to get it in,” Palm Beach Central coach Rod Harris said. “I understand the situation out there. It’s unfortunate because it’s a game everyone wanted to play.”

“May have to wait until the playoffs,” Dickmann said.

My take: unless the teams can find a neutral week, where neither is heading into a bye, this game won’t be played.
