Dwyer DE Malik Brown big riser in PBGametime Big Board update

By Jeff Greer

Malik Brown would be an NFL general manager’s dream.

Dwyer's Malik Brown moves way up on the updated Big Board.

Brown, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior defensive end at Dwyer, is as ferocious off the field as he is smiley off it. But you won’t see the imposing pass rusher grin much inside the lines. His speed, paired with aggression and power, makes him one of the area’s most sought-after Class of 2013 prospects, and it’s also a big reason he’s off to a great start this fall. That start, which has led Dwyer to a 5-0 record, a national ranking and a defense that has allowed 16 points in five games and pitched three shutouts, is why Brown is the newest member of the PBGametime Big Board’s top five.

Atlantic’s Brisly Estime, Dwyer cornerbacks DeAndre Bozeman and Jonathan Moxey and Palm Beach Central’s Lloyd Howard are also big risers on the list. Keep in mind, if a player drops, it isn’t because we don’t think they’re good, it’s because we believe other players have surpassed them. These rankings will be changed and expanded again in the coming months.

The Big Board, a Palm Beach County recruitnik’s dream, rates the players who staff writers Jeff Greer and Matt Porter believe are the best college football prospects. The rankings are compiled using several criteria: On-field performance, reporters’ eye test, intel from opposing coaches and players and, taken with a grain of salt, background from the player’s own coaching staff. College offers do have some impact on the player’s rating — if Nick Saban or Les Miles is recruiting them, that has to mean something — but they’re given the same treatment as the other factors.

The October update to the Big Board includes 25 new prospects from Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, and it also includes several changes to the previous top 25. Below, you’ll see the new list. If you have a comment or disagreement, leave a note, but remember, these are high school kids and this is a public forum. Comment responsibly.
