Softball: Wellington ace Remi Losey commits to Liberty

By Jeff Greer

Thrust into the starting role at Wellington this past spring, right-handed junior pitcher Remi Losey had her ups and downs as the Wolverines’ ace a year after her squad reached the state tournament for the first time in school history.

But Losey, who finished 8-7 with 3.20 earned-run average this past season, has impressed viewers with good off-speed pitches and the kind of guile that perks up college coaches. A busy travel-team pitcher, Losey secured an invitation to Liberty University’s softball camp over the weekend. She’s coming back with her future planned.

Losey verbally committed to Liberty on Saturday night, her father, Dan, said. Liberty is a Division I program located in the hills of southwestern Virginia.

Losey replaced former Wellington and current American Heritage ace Corrie Boggess after Boggess switched schools. Losey in turn earned Spring All-Conference honors and finished in the top eight in the area in both strikeouts and wins. She was a Post All-Area honorable mention, and also made honorable mention on the statewide Miracle Sports All-State team.
