Lake Worth OL/DL James Looney commits to Wake Forest

By Matt Porter

Joe Looney was the rock of Lake Worth’s offensive line before filling the same role at Wake Forest and playing in the NFL.

His younger brother James wants to do the same thing on the defensive side of the ball.

James Looney (6-3, 270) committed to Wake Forest on Wednesday, choosing the ACC school from more than a dozen offers. He will graduate high school in December and enroll at Wake in January.

“He was comfortable there,” Lake Worth coach Errick Lowe said. “It’s like his home away from home.”

Joe Looney, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, was a guard and center at Wake. Several schools, including USF, recruited James as a defensive tackle, which is where he’ll play in at Wake.

Looney also has offers from FIU, FAU, Marshall, Western Kentucky and Minnesota. He is also healthy again, after missing spring ball with a broken ankle and three games this season with a pulled muscle in his hip.
