Veteran softball coach Eddie Wallace to lead Dwyer this spring

By Jeff Greer

He toyed with the idea last year, when Dwyer was looking for a new softball coach for the 2012 season, but it wasn’t the right time for Eddie Wallace.

A year later, Wallace and Dwyer softball are finally connecting. The veteran youth-league coach will lead the Panthers’ 2013 season after former Dwyer player Melanie Lott stepped down as Dwyer’s coach.

The Panthers struggled under Lott, who also had the help of her dad, John. They finished 5-12 and lost in the District 9-8A play-in game, hampered all season by injuries, especially to Mackenzie Huhn, Dwyer’s ace who now plays at UCF.

Dwyer graduated a lot of its players, so the challenge for Wallace, the father of former Dwyer star Logan Wallace and former Palm Beach Gardens ace pitcher Kaylie Wallace, will be molding the Panthers’ young players in the state’s most difficult district. Jupiter, a state semifinalist in 2012, will return most of its players and has a serious shot at a state championship. Gardens is always strong, though it graduated several All-State selections from its roster, and Palm Beach Central and Wellington are expected to be competitive once again.
