The Spanish River cross country coach was named the National High School Athletic Coaches Association national cross country coach of the year. At the Palm Beach County Championships on Monday, his girls team finished first and boys team placed third.

At the county championships, the dean of Palm Beach County cross country added another honor: his 300th win as a high school coach.

Rothman, who has coached Spanish River to seven state championships in 30 years at the school, has been coaching high school cross country for 38 years. His teams have won 25 district titles and 12 regional titles. He was state cross country coach of the year in 1999, 2002 and 2003.

He is also a member of the Palm Beach County, Florida Athletic Coaches Association, Florida Track and Field and FHSAA’s halls of fame. He retired from teaching in 2011, after 32 years at Spanish River.
