Playoff Primer 2012: Jensen Beach hoping for Glades Central rematch

By Jeff Greer

On Friday, there are 16 playoff games involving teams from our area. In the buildup to the games, we’ll break down every matchup.

There’s no way to know what Jensen Beach will do when it takes the field Friday night. The Falcons’ 5-5 record, with one two-game losing streak and one two-game winning streak, screams of inconsistency. If the good Falcons show up, sure, there’s a chance they could surprise someone in the playoffs. If the bad ones arrive at Merritt Island, no dice. But the bigger problem isn’t even the consistency, it’s the opponent. Merritt Island is good, and this is a mismatch.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. General admission is $8; reserved seating is $9.

As James Carville would say, it’s the statistics, stupid. Yes, for all the Gladiator chest-thumpers out there, I know the games are played on the field. But in the field of previews and prognostication, that option just isn’t there. We have to make estimations based on numbers. And the numbers say this is not a fair game. Jensen Beach struggles to score, and if it wasn’t for a 43-36 win over Boynton Beach, the Falcons’ 2012 total offensive output would be … offensive. Merritt Island, meanwhile, gives up all of 6 points a game. Do the math. It ain’t pretty. But that’s why they play the games, right?
