Boca Raton, Lake Worth Christian rack up state girls’ volleyball awards

By Jeff Greer

Palm Beach County took home two girls’ volleyball state titles last month, and those accolades were just the beginning.

Boca Raton senior Ruth Harrington (8A) and Lake Worth Christian’s Meagan Milligan (2A) won the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Player of the Year awards for their respective classes. Their coaches, Boca’s Amanda Angermeier and Lake Worth Christian’s Terri Kaiser, also won coach of the year honors in their classes.

Harrington broke Boca’s career kills record en route to the Bobcats’ first state championship in program history. Boca finished the season with a 31-1 record, and Harrington, an outside hitter, mashed 439 kills. She also collected 256 digs and 40 aces.

Milligan starred for Lake Worth Christian as a sophomore before spending last season in Georgia. While she was gone, Lake Worth Christian won a state title in its 16th trip to states. This year, the Defenders, well, defended their state crown, and Milligan made them even more unstoppable than before, finishing with 397 kills, 97 blocks and 64 aces.
