Football: Annual Broward-Beach Bowl canceled

By Matt Porter

The private-school postseason all-star game between Broward and Palm Beach Counties will not be played the year.

The Broward-Beach Bowl was canceled due to lack of sponsorship and lack of interest from area coaches, according to Joe Tinsley, the game’s organizer.

“The past few years, sponsorship has been hard to come by,” said Tinsley, who has presided over the game for the last nine years. He said he wants to try again next year.

Pope John Paul II coach Matt Dillon, who coached in the game last season, said “it’s a shame” the game won’t be played.

“I thought it was great for those kids,” Dillon said. “If we can help one kid get a scholarship offer, we’ve done our jobs.”

In last year’s game, Broward beat Palm Beach 11-10. American Heritage’s Edwin Thomas was named North Team MVP.
